---|---|---|---|---|---|
parent function | all linear functions will be compared to the parent function y=x, where m=1 and b=0
🗑
direct variation | “varies directly” any linear function that goes through the origin has a constant of proportionality y=kx (k is a special name for slope because it is a constant).
🗑
parameter change | any change that is made to the slope (m) or y-intercept(b) in comparison to the parent function y=x. The change can affect the m or b, or both. This is known as a transformation.
🗑
linear function | has a constant rate of change, graphs as a line.
🗑
Slope-intercept form of a line | y= mx +b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.
🗑
Standard Form of a line | Ax + By= C, A and B are integers, graph using intercept method
🗑
Point-Slope Form of a line | This is used to write an equation in slope-intercept form if you are given a slope and point.
🗑
Rate of change or slope | change in y over change in x OR rise over run
🗑
y intercept | where a function crosses the y axis known as b (0,y)
🗑
x intercept | where a function crosses the x axis (x ,0)
🗑
zero of a function | any function f(x)=0, this would be your x-intercept, when y=0.
🗑
function notation | written as f(x), “f of x”, same as y
🗑
linear inequality | ex: y>x, all points greater than the line of y=x satisfies that inequality, a shaded region on a graph.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.
To hide a column, click on the column name.
To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.
You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.
Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
