Because ST-38 is 3+3+2 (=8) down from ST-35. And since distance from lateral malleolus to center of patella is 16 cun, ST-38 and ST-40 are at midpoint.

What is the posterior point? | Points up from GB 40 follow the "412" measurement system (or 3-1-1-2 if you want to include GB-39). The 4-1-2 points are 38-37-36. The 412 points are all on ANTERIOR border. GB-35 (like GB-39) are on POSTERIOR border. GB-35 is just behind GB-36.
