cells - Major

        Help!

Question
Answer
cell   Basic unit of structure and function in living things
🗑
organelles   tiny cell structures that have particular jobs in a cell - "carry out specific functions within the cell
🗑
cell wall   rigid layer of nonliving material that surrounds the cells of plants and some other organisms.
🗑
cell membrane   forms the outside boundary that separates the cell from its environment. Mainly controlls what substances come into and out of a cell.
🗑
nucleus   the "brain" of the cell - directs all the cells activities
🗑
nucleur membrane   protects the nucleus, controls what enters and leaves the nucleus
🗑
chromatin   strands that contain genetic material that instruct the direct function of the cell - determines what kind of cell it is
🗑
cytoplasm   thick gel-like fluid (think jello!) where organelles are found. It's located between the cell membrane and the nucleus
🗑
mitochondria   the cells "powerhouse" produces most of the energy the cell needs to carry out its function.
🗑
chloroplasts   organells tha capture sunlight and use it to produce food for the cell
🗑
vacuole   the cells "storage" plant cells have larger vacuoles than animal cells
🗑
selective permeability   the cell membrane is selectively permeable: it allows some materials to pass through it,but does not allow others to pass through it.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
