Density   The amount of mass per unit of volume; how heavy something is compared to its size. A physical property which is determined by dividing the mass of an object by its volume.

Graduated Cylinder   A piece of laboratory equipment used to accurately measure volume.

Linear   In measurements, a straight line; distance. The basic SI unit is meter (m) and can be measured with a ruler.

Mass   The amount of matter in an object. Kilogram (kg) is the basic SI unit of mass. It is measured with a balance.

Meniscus   The surface of liquids in glass containers tend to curve. The curved surface is called a meniscus.

SI Units   The International System of Units is the modern metric system and the most widely used system of units in the world. It includes the units of kilogram, meter and second.

Temperature   A measure of the average kinetic energy of atoms in a substance; a measure of how fast the atoms are moving. It is measured with a thermometer in degrees on the Fahrenheit, Celsius, or Kelvin.

Triple-beam balance   A piece of laboratory equipment that is used to accurately measure mass.

Volume   The amount of space an object takes up. Liter (L) is the basic SI unit.

Weight   The force of gravity acting on an object. Newton (N) is the basic SI unit of weight. Weight can be measure with a scale.
