DUR (Drug Utilization Review) warning   An alert or message generated by the pharmacy or insurance company computer system notifying the pharmacist of a potential drug safety or payment concern.

prescription   An instruction from a medical practitioner that authorizes the issue of a drug or device to a patient.

DAW (Dispense As Written)   A code specifying that the brand name drug, not the generic, is to be dispensed.

Schedule II Drugs   Drugs that have a high potential for abuse or addiction but have safe and accepted medical uses; they require special handling.

over-the-counter (OTC) drugs   Meds that don't require a prescription but may be filled with one.
