🗑
list 3 ways the trachea and the epiglottis are different.   1. E carries food vs. t carries air 2. e is made sm muscle vs.t is made of cartilage 3.digestive system vs. respiratory system 4. e can close when contracting food vs. t always stays open so you don't suffocate.
🗑
what causes choking?   Choking is caused by the epiglottis not flapping down so food enters the trachea.
🗑
Where are cilia found?   cilia are found in the trachea and the bronchi.
🗑
What do cilia do?   cilia keep the trachea and bronchi clean by waving around which moves small particles and mucus around to the top of trachea so it can be swallowed. cilia are active!!!
🗑
why is it better for the lungs to be made of millions if alveoli instead of one big sac like a balloon?   It is better because millions of small sacs covered with capillaries provide more room for gas diffusion in the lungs than one big sac. MORE SURFACE AREA FOR GAS EXCHANGE!!!
🗑
Explain what happens to your ribs diaphragm and lungs when you inhale.   ribs- contract to help move air diaph- contracts to allow air into lungs lungs- expand from being filled with air
🗑
list problems that can affect the respiratory system and their causes   pneumonia, choking-food in trachea, bronchitis- inflamed bronch(i/us), hiccups- vigorous contractions(spasms) of the diaphragm
🗑
what does the respiratory system do for other body systems?   the respiratory system provides oxygen for cellular respiration and gets rid of co2 from cellular respiration.
🗑
Why does the respiratory system need other body systems/   circulatory- deliver its oxygen, deliver it co2 and bring it's cells nutrients. immune- destroy diseases affecting it digestive- provide nutrients for it to use for cellular respiration
