BRAND NAME   Decadron, Hexadrol  
CLASS   Corticosteroid  
MECHANISM OF ACTION   Suppresses acute and chronic inflammation. Immunosuppressive effects.  
INDICATIONS   Anaphylaxis, spinal cord injury, asthma, croup, elevated ICP, as an adjunct to treatment for shock.  
CONTRAINDICATIONS   Hypersensitivity  
ADVERSE REACTIONS   HTN, Sodium and water retention, GI bleeding, TB. None from a single dose.  
NOTES ON ADMINISTRATION   Pregnancy safety unknown. Protect from heat. Toxicity and side effects with long term use.  
INCOMPATABILITIES/DRUG INTERACTIONS   Calcium, Metaraminol.  
DOSE/ROUTE Adult   10-100mg IV (1mg/kg slow IV bolus)  
DOSE/ROUTE Pediatric   0.25-1mg/kg/dose IV, IO, IM  
ONSET OF ACTION   Hours  
PEAK EFFECTS   8-12 hours  
DURATION OF ACTION   24-72 hours.
