CH12 - Meiosis

        Help!

Question
Answer
Crossing over (aka synapsis) in meiosis creates new gene combinations. What stage does this happen in?   Crossing over happens in Prophase I of meiosis
🗑
In synapsis, is DNA exchanged between chromatids of heterozygous or homologous chromosomes or both?   Crossing over involves the exchange of DNA between chromatids of paired homologous chromosomes.
🗑
The purpose of crossing over is what?   Genetic recombination, which creates genetic diversity in offspring.
🗑
A chromosome has self-replicated, resulting in sister chromatids. Are the alleles on the sister chromatids the same or different?   They are the same: the sister chromatids are exact duplicates.
🗑
A tetrad is a pair of self-replicated homologous chromosomes in meiosis. Are the alleles on the non-sister chromatids the same or different?   They are different. Alleles come in pairs, one on one chromosome in the homologous pair, the other on the other chromosome in the homologous pair.
🗑
define karyotyping   a procedure to exam the numbers and shapes of chromosomes.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
