Toussaint L'Ouverture   A former slave that began Haiti's fight for independence during the Night of Fire. Haiti was the first Latin American country to gain its freedom from European powers.

Miguel Hidalgo   A criollo priest from Dolores that began Mexico's independence. He famously rang the church bells (Cry of Dolores) to call for revolution.

Simon Bolivar   He was the Liberator of Latin America. He led Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Panama to freedom. He tried to unite the countries into one country called Gran Colombia. He became its first president, but the unification of the country was unsuccessful.

Cuban Revolution   The conflict that was led by Fidel Castro against General Batista. It resulted in Cuba becoming a communist nation.

Cuban Missile Crisis   The time period when the Soviet Union negotiated with Cuba to place missiles on this island. The US placed a blockade on Cuba. This eventually, led to the removal of the missiles.

Bay of Pigs Invasion   An invasion by Cuban exiles supplied with US weapons to attack Cuba. Many were captured and their families were forced to pay huge ransoms to the Cuban government

Zapatistas   A terrorist organization located in Chiapas, Mexico. Chiapas, Mexico is the poorest state in Mexico. The terrorists within the organization want to support the poor farmers of the region by demanding the government make changes in the region.
