Definition
Integers   Include only whole numbers (no fractions) and their opposites (negative numbers). Example: -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2...

Whole Numbers   Include numbers such as 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ... (and so on)

Counting numbers   Numbers used to "count" . They include numbers such as 1, 2, 3, 4... (zero is not included)

Rational Numbers   Any number that can be written as a fraction

Absolute Value   The distance between a number and zero on the number line

Coordinate plane   A plane divided into four quadrants by the intersection of the x-axis and the y-axis at the origin

Horizontal Line   A line that runs left to right (side to side)

Ordered Pair   Set of numbers used to locate a position in the coordinate plane

Origin   Point (0,0) in a coordinate plane. This is where the x and y axis intersect.

Quadrant   One of the four parts that make up the coordinate plane

Vertical Line   Line that runs up and down

X-axis   The HORIZONTAL number line of a coordinate plane

Y-axis   The VERTICAL number line of a coordinate plane

Zero Pair   A whole number and its opposite. The sum of these two numbers is equal to zero.
