| The four main layers of the Earth's interior from top to bottom | 1) Crust 2) Mantle 3) Outer Core 4) Inner Core
🗑
| Crust | Earth's solid and rocky outer layer that includes land surface and the ocean floor.
🗑
| Mantle | Goes almost halfway through to the center of Earth.
🗑
| Outer Core | A liquid layer composed of iron and nickel above the solid inner core.
🗑
| Inner Core | The inner most layer, primarily solid, composed of nickel and iron.
🗑
| 3 types of plate boundaries | 1) Transform 2) Divergent 3) Convergent
🗑
| Transform Boundaries | A place where two plates slip past each other, moving in opposite directions.
🗑
| Divergent Boundaries | A place where two plates move apart, or diverge. Most of these boundaries occur at the mid-ocean ridge.
🗑
| Convergent Boundaries | The place where two plates come together or converge. When two plates converge, the result is a collision.
🗑
| Pangaea | Alfred Wegener's supercontinent, meaning "all lands". Wegener's siad that all the continents had once been joined together in a single landmass and have since drifted apart.
🗑
| Two types of forces that help shape the Earth's surface | 1) Constructive 2) Destructive
🗑
| Constructive Force | Build up the Earth's surface (examples: mountains and volcanoes).
🗑
| Destructive Force | Slowly wear away the surface (examples: wind, erosion, and gravity).
🗑
| Theory of Plate Tectonics | The theory that states that the plates of the Earth are in constant motion.
🗑
| Iron and Nickel | Two metals that make up the inner and outer core.
🗑
| Lithosphere | Sub-layer of the mantle that means "Stone" in Greek.
🗑
| Asthenosphere | Sub-layer of the manthle that means "weak" in Greek.
🗑
| 3 forms of evidence that Alfred Wegener used to support his theory of plate tectonics | 1) fossils 2) landforms 3) climate
🗑
| Two layers that make up the Earth's crust | 1) Continental Crust 2) Oceanic Crust
