Auscultation | Listening to body organs

Chief Complaint | The reason the patient presents for an encounter

Counseling | A discussion with a patient and/or family concerning diagnosis, prognosis, risk factors,etc

Critical Care | Care provided for a critical illness or injury which acutely impairs one or more vital organ system, and is an imminent or life-threatening condition

Established Patient | A patient who has seen a provider of the exact specialty and subspecialty in the same group within the past three years

Family History | A review of health status of immediate family, including cause and age of death, if appropriate. Also includes a review of hereditary diseases existing in the family

History of Present Illness | A chronological description of the onset and progression of the illness for which treatment is being sought

New Patient | A patient who has not been seen by a provider of the exact same specialty and subspecialty in the same group for the past three years

Medical Necessity | Reasonable and necessary services to effect cure or a change in the condition for which the patient is being seen

||||
Observation Status | The patient's condition requires monitoring but the decision to admit to inpatient status has not been made

||||
Palpation | Touching the body during physical examination in which an object is felt to determine size, shape, firmness, or location

||||
Percussion | Creating sounds from the body by tapping
🗑

||||
Review of Systems | A series of questions regarding signs and symptoms that are associated with the patient's chief complaint
