Question
Answer
Archimedes' principle   The buoyant force exerted on a body in a fluid is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced.
barometer   A device used to measure atmospheric pressure.
Bernoulli's principle   States that the pressure of a fluid decreases as its speed increases.
Boyle's law   The volume of a dry gas is inversely proportional to the pressure it exerts, if the temperature remains constant.
Charles's law   The volume of a gas at constant pressure is directly proportional to its Kelvin temperature.
fluid mechanics   The study of fluid movement and forces.
fluids   Liquid or gas phases of matter.
hydraulic machines   Machines which use fluid to transmit or increase force.
pascal (Pa)   Unit of pressure equal to one Newton of force over a square meter (N/mxm).
Pascal's principle   Changes in pressure in a confined fluid are distributed equally in all directions throughout the fluid.
pressure   The force pushing directly on a given surface.
