#1 Who was Ferdinand Magellan?   A Portuguese explorer who was funded by the king of Spain to explore the newly discovered Pacific Ocean. This voyage took place in 1519.

#4 Who is Hernando Cortes?   A Spainish explorer that landed on the shores of Mexico, he was looking to claim new land for Spain.

#5 What is a conquistador?   The Spanish soldiers, explorers, and fortune hunters who took part in the conquest of the Americas in the 16th century.

#6 Who was Francisco Pizarro?   A conquistador that marched a small force into south america and conquered the Incan empire in 1532

#7 Who was Atahualpa?   An Incan ruler who met Francisco Pizarro near the city of Cajamarca, he was kidnapped and offered to pay a ransom for his release, after the Spainish payed for his release he was killed.

#8 Who is a mestizo?   A person of mixed Spanish and Native American ancestry.

#9 What is a encomienda?   A grant of land made by Spain to a settler in the Americas, including the right to use Native Americans as laborers on it.
