latitude   a distance north or south of the equator expressed in degrees.  
longitude   a distance east or west of the prime meridian expressed in degrees.  
map legend   the symbols on most maps that is to explain what the symbols mean.  
map scale   the relationship between distance drawn on a map and actual distance on earth's surface  
mercater map   a map projecting method using parallel longitude lines connecting shapes, are accurate but their areas are distorted.  
plain   a landform that is relatively flat.  
plateau   landforms created next to mountains.  
prime meridian   an imaginary line running from the north pole to south pole.  
robinson   a map projection using curved longitude lines.  
sonar   use of sound waves to detect size and shapes found under water.  
topex poseidon satellite   a satellite that collects information about earths oceans using radar.  
typograph map   a map that uses contour lines to show changes.  
unwarped mountain   formed when earths crust is pushed up.
