ratio   A comparison of two quantities using division. The ratio of a to b (where b does not equal 0) can be written as a to b, a : b, or a/b.

rate   a ratio of two quantities with different units.

unit rate   A rate with a denominator of 1.

slope   A ratio of the change in y (the rise) to the change in x (the run) between any two points on a line. It is a measure of the steepness of a line.

proportion   An equation stating that two ratios are equivalent.

proportional   Two quantities that form a proportion.

cross products   In the proportion a/b = c/d, where b and d do not equal 0, the products a(d) and b(c) are these.

U.S. customary system   System of measurement that contains units for length, capacity, and weight.

metric system   Decimal system of measurement, based on powers of 10, that contains units for length, capacity, and mass.
