ABSOLUTE VALUE   The absolute value of a number is its distance from 0 on a number line. It can be tought as the value of a number when its sign is ignored. For example, -3 and 3 both have an absolute value of 3 or |3| = 3 and |-3|=3.

ACUTE ANGLE   An angle whose degree measure is less tha 90.

ALGORITHM   An algorithm is a set of rules for performing a procedure. Some examples of algorithms are the rules for long disision or the rules for adding two fractions.

ANGLE   Consists of two rays that meet at a vertex, measured in degrees or radians

ARC OF A CIRCLE   A part of a circle. Arcs are classified as minor or major depending on the central angle.

ARC LENGTH   The length of the arc of a circle. It is calculated using the formula (a/360) x 2r x NUMBER PI where a is the central angle of the arc.

AREA   The measure of the amount of surface enclosed by the sides of a figure. It is measured in square units such as square cm, square inches and square miles.

AVERAGE   The sum of all the values in a data set divided by the number of data values. It is the same as MEAN.

AXIS, AXES   The number lines that are used to make a graph. There are usually two/threeaxes perpendicular to each other.

BASE OF A SOLID   The bottom side or face of a three-dimensional shape.
