QuestionAnswer
What is a species? Similar organisms that can reproduce.
What is a population? A group of similar species living in the same habitat.
What is a community? A group of different species (populations) living in the same habitat.
What is an ecosystem? A collection of communities of organisms living and interacting in the same physical area.
What is a producer? An organism that makes it's own food through photosysnthesis. (a plant)
What is a consumer? An organism that must consume it's food by eating other organisms.
What is a herbivore? An organism that eats only producers.
What is a carnivore? An organism that eats only other animals.
What is a decomposer? An organism that breaks down dead and decaying matter.
What is the first thing to grow when an area has been disturbed? Grasses then shrubs
What are lichens and mosses? Pioneer species
During what kind of succession do pioneer species appear? Primary succession
What is primary succession? When new land has been created.
What is secondary succession? When existing ecosystems (land) has been changed.
