QuestionAnswer
parent function all linear functions will be compared to the parent function y=x, where m=1 and b=0
direct variation “varies directly” any linear function that goes through the origin has a constant of proportionality y=kx (k is a special name for slope because it is a constant).
parameter change any change that is made to the slope (m) or y-intercept(b) in comparison to the parent function y=x. The change can affect the m or b, or both. This is known as a transformation.
linear function has a constant rate of change, graphs as a line.
Slope-intercept form of a line y= mx +b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.
Standard Form of a line Ax + By= C, A and B are integers, graph using intercept method
Point-Slope Form of a line This is used to write an equation in slope-intercept form if you are given a slope and point.
Rate of change or slope change in y over change in x OR rise over run
y intercept where a function crosses the y axis known as b (0,y)
x intercept where a function crosses the x axis (x ,0)
zero of a function any function f(x)=0, this would be your x-intercept, when y=0.
function notation written as f(x), “f of x”, same as y
linear inequality ex: y>x, all points greater than the line of y=x satisfies that inequality, a shaded region on a graph.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
