Stack #39626

A&P2 Test 5 #4 of Urniary System-Nephrons

QuestionAnswer
Trigone is a point of referance: Created by 2 uretheral openings & urethra
Nephrons have:(3) Renal Tubules, Glomerulus & Glomerular Capsule
RENAL TUBULES -(4) are: PROXIMAL CONVALUTED, LOOP OF HENLE, DISTAL CONVOLUTED & COLLECTING TUBULES
glomerulus is a knot of: capillaries
GLOMERULAR CAPSULE : surrounds the capilary knot
RENAL CAPSULE aka CORPUSCLE refers to: the glomerular capsule, plus its capillary tuft
RENAL PYRAMIDS are structures located in the medullary layer
Renal Pyramids are formed from tubules & blood vessels assoc w/nephrons
collecting tubules go thru pyramids: into MINOR CALYCES
MINOR CALYCES empty into MAJOR CALYCES, which in turn empty into the renal pelvis
Each nephron is assoc with a: GLOMERULAR CAPILLARY BED
The glomerular capillary bed produces filterate and a PERITUBULAR BED
The PERITUBULAR BED reclaims most of the filterate
Afferent arterioles from the: interlobular arteries feed into the nephrons glomerular tuft.
Two types of nephrons are; cortical and juxtamedullary
Which type nephron is most #"s? cortical
CORTICAL NEPHRON has its glomerulus located in the upper cortical zone
The cortical nephron rarely penetrates the medulla
PERITUBULAR CAPILLARIES are the: capillaries of the cortical nephron
JUXTAMEDULLARY NEPHRON has its glomerulus loc close to the cortico-medullary junction
Peritubular capillaries of JG nephrons: include an additional capillary network called the VASA RECTA
A nephron starts as a double: walled cup called the glomerular capsule
Glomerular capsule is in the cortex
Name outer wall of nephron capsule: called the PARIETAL LAYER
The perietal layer consists of: simple squamous epithelium
CAPSULAR SPACE seperates parietal layer from inner layer
Inner layer of nephron capsule is: VISCERAL LAYER
VISCERAL LAYER consists: of epithelial cells called PODOCYTES
Inner layer of nephron surrounds a capillary network called the glomerulus
ENDOTHELIAL-CAPSULAR MEMBRANE formed: from visceral layer of capsule & endothelium of the glomerulus
The endothelial-capsular membrane: filters water and solutes in the blood
Apx. 1200 ml of blood: pass thru kidneys each minute
