Urinary bladder-movable structure: held in place by folds of the peritoneum
Bladder shape depends on: amt of urine at that moment
How bladder looks full? Empty? Full-sperical; Empty-deflated balloon
TRIGONE is a sm triangular area at base of bladder
The trigone is formed by the: openings of urethral & ureters
RUGAE are caused: bladder is empty and walls fold
Bladder position changes due to filling; rises in abdominal cavity as fills
Four coats of bladder wall are: mucosa, submucosa, muscularis, serous
MUCOSA is what layer? Has? innermost layer; has transitional epithelium
Transitional epithelium is stretchable: so this layer can regulate the inflation & deflation
SUBMUCOSA made of: Connects: dense CT; connects mucosal to muscularis
DETRUSOR COAT is aka MUSCULARIS LAYER
The muscularis-# layers what? 3 layers of muscle tissue
the 3 layers of muscularis tissue: longitudinal, circluar and longitudinal (sandwich)
circular fibers of muscularis form the INTERNAL SPHINCTER muscle
EXTERNAL SPHINCTER is directly below internal sphincter
External sphincter is made of: skeletal muscle
What regulates micturation stretch receptors & parasympathetic nerves;
MICTURITION is voiding of urine
URETHRA is known as the terminal muscle of urinary system
Urethra describe sm, thin walled, muscular tube
Urethra extends from urinary bladder to body exterior
Male Urethra serves a dual function-urine&seman
Female Urethra function: urinary; completely seperate
Female loc of urethra-postier to: symphysis pubis, embedded in vaginal wall
Female length of urethra 1-2 inches
Male length of urethra 8 inches
Internal urethral sphincter-part of: DETRUSOR MUSCLE (a circular muscle) of bladder
Functional unit of kidney is: NEPHRON
Kidneys aka Renal glands
Ad Renal sits above kidney
Renal Vessels are renal artery and veins
pyramids aka renal pyramids or medullary pyramids
Stretch rectp.-sympathetic nerves: affect the detrusor muscles & the internal sphincter
DETRUSOR MUSCLE: surrounds the bladder neck at urethra junction
SEROUS COAT-Layer?Formed by? outer; peritoneum (covers only superior surface of bladder)
# Nephrons in each kidney: 1/2 to 1 million;
