What does the nurse assess when looking for appendicitis? generalized abdominal pain, pain localized at Mcburneys point, nausea, vomiting, fever, chills, anorexia, diarrhea, constipation, WBC may or may not be elevated
What is the clinical thearpy for Appendicitis? appendectomy
What should be done pre-op for an appendectomy? NPO, allow child to assume comfortable position, assess for abdominal distention, do not apply heat or use enemas
What does sudden relief of pain with an appendicitis indicate? possible rupture
What is post-op care of an appendicitis? vitals signs, I and O's, If appendix ruptured-NG tube, penrose drain, antibotics
