Adaptations vocabulary and Photosynthesis Review

Adaptation A characteristic that helps an organism survive in its environment and reproduce
Hibernation A state of greatly reduced body activity that occurs during the winter
Homeostasis The process by which an organism’s internal environment is kept stable in spite of changes in the external environment
Photosynthesis The process by which plants and some other organisms capture light energy and use it to make food from carbon dioxide and water
Response An action or change in behavior that occurs as the result of a stimulus
Stimulus A change in an organism’s surroundings that causes the organism to react
