Lorezepam (Ativan) uses Anxiolytic; Preop sedation;Treatment against chemo-related n,v; acute alcohol withdrawl
Lorezepam (Ativan) SE Drowsiness, sedation loss of coordination, dizziness, blurred vision, HA, insomnia, increased excitability, hallucinations; n, v, constipation, dry mouth, ab. cramps, pruritis, skin rash
Lorezepam (Ativan) CI KDA, narrow angle glaucoma, pregnancy
Lithium (Lithobid) Alter sodium ion transport to nerve cells resulting in shifted catecholamine metabolism
Lithium (Lithobid) Acute mania; maintenance of BPD (bipolor disorder)
Lithium (Lithobid) Depend on serum levels: 2-2.5 mEq/L produce moderate to severe toxicity; most serious is cardiac dysrhythmias; drowsiness, slurred speech, seizures, choreoathetotic mvmts (involuntary wavelike), hypotension
Lithium (Lithobid) No absolute contraindications; concurrent use of thiazides, ACE inhibitors, and CCBs can increase toxicity.
Carbamazepine (Tegretol) Antiepileptic
Carbamazepine (Tegretol) MOA Alters the movement of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium ions, resulting in stabilized and less responsive cell membranes.
Carbamazepine (Tegretol) use Seizures; trigeminal glossopharyngeal neuralgia
Carbamazepine (Tegretol) SE exfoliative dermatitis, bone marrow suppression, dysrhythmias, HF, thrombophlembitis, vision/hearing disturbances, acute urinary retention, dyspnea, pneumonia
Carbamazepine (Tegretol) CI hypersensitive
Patient Teaching Tips for Tegretol: Gather hx of resp, liver, renal and CNS disorders
Patient Teaching Tips for Tegretol: Take AEDs at the same time of day with meals.
Patient Teaching Tips for Tegretol: Capsules should not be crushed, opened, or chewed.
Patient Teaching Tips for Tegretol: Patient should report any omissions or problems with dosing immediately!
