| chloroplast | structure where photosynthesis occurs inside the plant cell |
| roots | anchor plants; store sugar; absorb water and nutrients from soil |
| stems | support plant; position leaves; contain vascular tubes |
| leaves | place where photosynthesis occurs in the plant |
| vascular plants | plants with roots, stems, leaves and vascular tubes |
| phloem | vascular tube that carries sugar (glucose) from the leaves down to the roots |
| xylem | vascular tube that carries water and nutrients up from the roots to the rest of the plant |
| carbon dioxide | gas that is taken in by a plant for photosynthesis |
