blepharitis inflammatory condition of the eyelids, lash follicles, and gland of the eyelid-(characterized by swelling, redness, crusts of dried mucus on lids)
conjunctivitis inflammation of conjunctiva, pinkeye
dacryocystitis infection of lacrimal sac caused by an obstruction of nasolacrimal duct or by trauma
keratitis inflammation of cornea, usually confined to one eye
cataract gradually developing opacity of the lens or lens capsule
corneal abrasion scratch on the surface epithelium of the cornea
macular degeneration atrophy or degeneration of the macular disk
nystagmus recurring involuntary eyeball movement that produces blurred vision and difficulty focusing
glaucoma abnormally high IOP which can damage the optic nerve
retinitis pigmentosa progressive destructin of retinal rods, leads to blindness
iridectomy reduces the IOP by improving the drainage of aqueous humor- makes hole in iris to create an opening through which the humor can flow to bypass pupil
sclerectomy excision of part of sclera
scleral buckling surgical repair of detached retina
trabeculectomy surgical procedure that removes part of the trabecular network allowing fluid to bypass blocked channels
vitrectomy microsurgical procedure that removes part or all of the vitreous humor
miotic agent that causes constriction of the pupil
mydriatic agent that dilates the pupil of the eye
