Biological View heredity and environmental influences. Evolutionary psychology
Developmental View People undergo predictable patterns of change throughout life. Behavior determined by the interaction of nature and nuture.
Cognitive View People are information processing systems. Behavior is the result of our mental interpretations of our experiences.
Clinical View Two main variations: Psychodynamic and Humanistic.
Psychodynamic psychology theory that sees behavior arising from unconscious needs, conflicts, repressed memories, and childhood experiences.
Humanistic psychology Theory that focuses on the influence of self-concept, perceptions, interpersonal relationships and the need for personal growth.
Behavioral view Our behavior is shaped by learning. We respond to stimulus cues and to our history of rewards and punishments.
Trait View Individual differences result from differences in our underlying patterns of stable characteristic. Behavior results from each person's unique combination of traits.
Sociocultural view People are social animals. Behavior is based on culture and social norms and expectations.
Independent variable The one variable the researcher changes independently of all the other variables.
