Words about writing and geography

WordDefinition
Figurative language Words that are used in ways that aren’t purely literal
Personification Describing something not human by giving it human characteristics
Simile a comparison that isn't literal and uses like or as
Metaphor an untrue comparison that doesn't use like or as.
sea a large body of water completely or partly surrounded by land
sound a broad, inland body of water, often between a coastline and one or more islands off the coast
delta a flat, low-lying land built up from soil carried downstream by a river and deposited at its mouth
harbor a sheltered place along a shoreline where ships can anchor safely
absolute value Thedistance of a number from 0 on the number line, and is indicated by drawing a bar on each side of the number.
equivalent fractions Fractions that describe the same portion of a whole, or name the same number
