Glycemic index (GI) Term used to describe rise in blood glucose levels after carbohydrate-containing food is consumed

Pancreas Transplantation is recommended for Patients with type 1 diabetes who also have end-stage renal disease
Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) caused by profound deficiency of insulin
Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) S& S Lethargy/weakness, Hyperglycemia, Ketosis, Acidosis, Dehydration, Kussmaul respirations,
Hypoglycemia S& S Visual disturbances, Confusion, Irritability, Diaphoresis, Tremors Hunger
Angiopathy (disease of the blood vessels) Development promoted by altered lipid metabolism common to diabetes
Diabetic retinopathy Treatment Laser photocoagulation (Laser destroys ischemic areas of retina) or Vitrectomy (Aspiration of blood, membrane, and fibers inside the eye)
