Pyloric Stenosis | The narrowing of the pyloris the opening from the stomach to the small intestine. |
Clinical Manifestations | 2-4 weeks after birth. The infant regurgitates after feedings. As the obstruction progresses, regurgitation becomes to more of vomiting. The infant is hungry, irritable, fails to gain weight and fewer and smaller stools. |
Diagnosis evaluation | Physical exam; hyperactive bowel sounds, visible peristalsis waves, olive sized mass. Ultrasound of the ab. Blood chemistry for electrolyte imbalances. |
Management | Surgical correction. Preop procedure includes NG decompression of the stomach. Fluid & electrolyte corrections. |
