What are the 6 types of nutrients your body needs? 1) Water 2) Carbohydrates 3) Protien 4) Fat 5) Vitamins 6) Minerals
WATER: how much of our bodies, functions, reccomendations 2/3 of body is water, (55-65% women, 65-75% in men) functions: Carries nutrients to all parts of body, removes waste (secretion, excretion), aides digestion, maintains body temp, most vital nutrient. Reccomendation: 6-8 (250mL) glasses per day
PROTEINS: Ratio g/cal, functions, what are they broken down into? 1g = 4cals, 50% of our bodies are protein, functions: needed for growth, tissue formation, blood clotting, transporting oxygen & nutrients, making antibodies. Broken down into 22 different amino acids, 9 our body can't store so must be taken in daily.
What are the 2 types of protien? Reccomended daily intake and sources of protien? 2 Types: Animal and Vegetable. Reccomendation: 50-60g/day, found in fish and broccoli
CARBOHYDRATES: g/cals, functions, types, reccomendation 1g=4cals, functions: Body's primary energy source. 2 Types: Simple (sugars), Complex (starches) also refined (cookies and cakes) and natural. Reccomendation: 50-60% of our diet should be complex carbs.
FAT: g/cals, functions, 2 types, reccomendation 1g=9cals, functions: regulates body temp, absorbs vitamins ADEK, cushions internal organs, provides energy for muscles. 2 types: saturated (bad) and unsaturated (good) reccomendation: 1 tbsp / day. Most people consume 6-8/day
Minerals: Types, Functions calcium, potassium, sodium, iodine, iron, zinc. functions: Used in structural elements (teeth, bones) necissary for muscle contraction and permeability
Vitamins: 2 Types, functions Fat Soluble (ADEK) water soluble (BC), assist in processing other nutrients
What are the 4 Food Groups? Grain Products, Milk + Dairy, Fruits and Vegetables, Meat and alternatives
