Disorders of mood? | Reactive Depression, Major Depression, post-natal depression,hypomania, bi-polar affective disorder, suicidal depression, psychotic depression. |
What is Reactive depression? | A normal human response to grief. |
S+S of Major depression? | Depressed mood most of the time, Diminished interest or pleasure, Disturbed eating patterns, Insomnia or hypersomnia, lethargy, feelings of worthlessness,difficulty concentrating, loss of libido, recurrent negativity. |
S+S Post-natal depression? | Sudden unexplainable bouts of sadness/crying, feeling of inadequacy/unable to cope, disinterest of infant. |
What is Bi-polar affective disorder? | Characterised by mood swings from major depression to hypomania or mania. |
S+S of B.A.D.? | Minimal need for sleep, pressured speech, intrusive, impaired judgments, increased libido, poor dietary intake. |
Management of B.A.D? | low stimulus environment; Hydration and nutrition; stabilise sleep patterns; remove personal phone and plastic cards. |
What are some mood stabilisers? | Lithium; epilim, carbamazepine. |
S/E of mood stabilisers? | fine hand tremor; polyuria; weight gain; nausea. |
