angina pectoris chest pain that is due to ischemia of the myocardium. angina occurs bc of increase demand on the heart or at rest as a result of spasms of the coronary arteries. squeezing suffocating constricting pain
myocardial infarction myocardial ischemia is sustained resultin in death of myocardial cells (necrosis) pain that radiates to the left shoulder, jaw, arm. not relieved by rest or nitro. distant heart sounds with a thready pulse
heart failure when either ventricle fails to pump blood efficiently into the aorta or pulmonary arteries
left ventricular failure faatigue, shortness of breath, orthopnea, dyspnea on exertion, and paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea.
right ventricular failure elevated jugular venous pressure, dependent peripheral edema, weight gain
infective endocarditis an infection of the endothelial layer of the heart, including the cardiac valves. heart sounds are normal early on but then a murmur is heard if valve damage keeps occuring
pericarditis inflammation of the parietal and visceral layers of the pericardium and outer myocardium. pericardiam friction rub and chest pain
hypertension BP above 120/80
venous thrombosis and thrombophlebitis when a clot develops within a vein. thrombophlebitis is when inflammation of a vein with or without a clot. redness, warmth, tenderness, edema
aneurysm localized dilation of an artery caused by weakness in the arterial wall.
