Differences between phenomenological research and grounded theory PR-useful in gaining insight into human experiences GT- enables researchers to understand the fundamental social processes involved in health care situation.
Qualitative Research Traditions: 1)Discourse Analysis 2)Historical Analysis DA- used to analyze the dynamics 7 structure of conversations eg. pt-provider dialogue. HA-examines past events & trends thru roads, docs, articles & personal dairies from past.
Goal of Qualitative descriptive to produce a straightforward description of participants experiences in words as similar to what the participants(Patients) said as possible.
Methods of Qualitative descriptive 1)sampling for diversity 2)data collection-individual interview/focused groups 3)data analysis 4)generate themes/patterns-what has been said
Qualitative Studies - Have small sample size - Not being objective
Qualitative Examplar (Brown pg 46) Abstract -objective -methods -results -conclusions
Qualitative Study- Purpose -reason WHY the authors conduct study
Qualitative Study- Methods HOW the study was done -Ethics review (eg IRB) -Design -Sample -Data collection -Data anlysis
Institutional Review Board (IRB) -ensure the rights of human subjects when study is conducted -Informed consent doc must be signed & dated by participants/participants legal guardian -Infants, children, reproductive issues are considered very sensitive.
