Emergency Surgery Preformed to save life or limbs
General Anesthetics Causes numbness or loss of sensation in the entire body
Local Anesthetics Causes loss of sensation or numbness in part or the body
NPO No food or drink after midnight before surgery
Skin Prep Shaving the area of the body where operation will be performed
Spinal Anesthetics Causes loss of feeling in a large area of the body usually including the legs and feet
Unconsciousness Unaware of the environment occurs in sleep, fainting, or stuper
Anesthesia Loss of feeling or sensation in part of or all of the body
Anesthesiologist Medical doctor who administrates the anesthetic in the operating room
Anesthetics Drug used to produce loss of feeling. Can be given orally, rectally, or by injection
