what do you call normal bowel sounds? active
crackles heard during inspiration or on expiration w/collapsed or blocked airways-more commonly w/inspiration. They imply either accumulation of fluid secretions
wheezes classified as either high or low pitched. High pitch wheezes; associated w/dz of the sm airways & low pitch w/dz of lg airways. Wheezes imply dec airway lumen diameter
stridor intense continuous wheezes. auscultation with a stethoscope can usually id an area of max intensity associated w/airway obstruction. This is typically either at the larynx or thoracic inlet. Stridor indicates upper airway obstruction.
rhonchi or rales Rhonchi are also described as "continuous" sounds. They are lower in pitch than wheezes and have a snoring quality
