What are early symptoms of hypothyroidism? Early symptoms are nonspecific but gradually intensify
How is hypothyroidism treated? Hormone replacement
What is myxedema coma? Rare, serious disorder from persistently low thyroid production
What may precipitate myxedema coma? Acute illness, rapid withdrawal of thyroid meds, anesthesia & surgery,hypothermia, the use of sedatives and opiods.
What is a potential complication with myxedema coma? Respiratory acidosis and CO2 narcosis.Keep airway patent and ventilator support used as indicated

What is myxedema coma? What may precipitate it? May be precipitated by acute illness,withdrawal of thyroid meds,anesthesia,use of sedatives,hypoventilation, AIRWAY MUST BE KEPT PATENT,VENTILATOR SUPPORT USED AS INDICATED.
