what is the difference between a nucleoside rti and a non nucleoside rti? the nrti incorporates into the viral dna and halts the virals growth. the nnrti inhibit its movement

what inhibits the absorption of delvirdine? antacids. take 1 hour b4 or 2 after antacids

what do you need to warn the pt about when taking efavirenz? (3) dizziness, insomnia, and nightmares.
what is nevirapine (Viramune)? nnrti
when taking nevirapine when should the pt stop taking this drug? and what should they report to the hcp? if a rash develops persistent abdominal pain(drug may induce liver problems)
what do protease inhibitors do? prevent viral replication and release of viral particles. active proteins are not produced so viral particles cannot leave the cell to infect other cells.
which classification of drugs supresses viral replication but does not actually kill the virus? nnrti

what is atazanavir(reyataz)? protease inhibitor
what should you teach the pt who takes atazanavir? take drug with food
why would a person taking atazanavir check his or her skin? and what would they find abnormal? drug increases blood bilirubin levels. yellowish skin and sclera
what is fosamprenavir (Lexiva)? protease inhibitor
what would you monitor with fosamprenavir? and why is this? serum lipid levels and blood pressure drug can induce hyperlidemia and atherosclerosis.

what three things would you teach a pt who is taking indinavir? take this drug on an empty stomach teach the pt to check his/her skin for yellowish presence teach pt to report flank pain

what drug is absorbed best with a high fatty food? saquinavir!
what do you warn the pt of when taking saquinavir? avoid direct sunlight, wear protective clothing when outside and use sunscreen
what is a fusion inhibitor? blocks hiv from fusing with a host cell.
what is enfurvitide (Fuzeon)? fusion inhibitor
what form of drug does enfurvitide come in? and what do you need to teach pt? subq injection rotate sites
what is an entry inhibitor? blocks receptor ccr5 on cd4 t cells.
what is the name of the only entry inhibitor? maraviroc(selzentry)
what do you want to teach the pt who is taking maraviroc? if taking antihypertensive drugs severe hypotension is possible.
what do you want to monitor with maraviroc? lfts
what is an intergrase inhibitor? keeps viral dna from being inserted into host cells dna
what is the name of the only integrase inhibitor? raltegravir(Isentress)
what is the common side effect of the integrase inhibitor diarrhea
what is trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (septra)used for? treatment of choice for pcp p.jiroveci penumonia
