What does Hgb test determine? This lab value test is used to determine blood loss, anemia and bone marrow suppression.
Hgb normal value male & female? Male: 14-18g/dL, Female: 12-16g/dL
Hgb low levels contribute to which conditions? Low normal levels (8-10 g/dL) leads to decreased exercise tolerance, increased fatigue and tachycardia. May indicate anemia, recent hemorrhage, RBC destruction (cancer, sickle cells disease).

If HCO3- is of decreased value what happens? Decreased value will decrease PH leading to Metabolic Acidosis. Result to decreased deep tendon reflexes. Signs & Symptoms: Secondary hyperventilation (Kussmaul's brthing), nausea & vomiting, cardiac dysrhythmias, lethargy and coma.
If HCO3- is of increased value what happens and what are some causes? Increased value will increase PH (Metabolic Alkalosis). Signs: Weakness, mental dullness, possible early tetany. Results: Hypoventil, ^ deep tendon reflexes.Possible causes: Bicarb. ingestion, vomiting, diuretics, steroids, adrenal disease.
