What types of patients should bronchodilators be cautioned in because it has an adverse effect? Patients with heart disease
Other than heart disease, the use of bronchodilators should also be cautioned in patients with what? Hypertension, DM, seizures, and hyperthyroidism
These following drugs are used as what? Albuterol, Preventil, Ventolin, Xopenex, and Epinephrine Bronchodilators
What bronchodilator comes in a pressured aerosol form and is often abused and prevents people from seeking medical they need? Primatene/Epinephrine (OTC)
Can be used for preventing bronchoconstriction, and dries secretions, causes tachycardia, and is most notable as Atropine and is slow so it is NOT a rescue drug? Anticholinergics/Atrovent
These agents are not meant for the management of acute asthmatic attacks, but prevent them and are for long-term use. Examples are Zyflo, Singulair, Accolate. Anti-Leukotriene agents
These drugs prevent the release of chemicals that cause bronchospasm, are most effective in preventing asthma caused by extrinsic factors such as allergens and exercise. They are known as mast cell stabilizers. Intal/Tilade
These are the most potent anti-inflammatory drugs. Steroids
IV form of steroids are given in what type of episodes? ACUTE
What form of steroids are given as a second-base drug, used when bronchodilators are not adequate? The inhaled form
Inhaled medications are commonly known as what? MDIs/Metered Dose Inhalers

With MDIs,between your 10-second puffs, what should you do to prevent thrush? Rinse your mouth
What medications break down tenacious secretions? Mucolytics
What are the side effects of Mucolytics? Bronchospasm/smells like rotten eggs
Adequate fluid intake, liquid cough medicine should NOT be diluted, HOB elevated, note color/consistancy of sputum, NO MILK/PRODUCTS, & NO CAFFEINE with what medications? Mucolytics
