Atelectasis Collapsed lung or part of a lung.
Hemothorax Presence of blood in the pleural cavity causing the lung on the affected side to collapse.
Respiration Exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the alveoli and in the tissues and cells.
Dyspnea Difficulty breathing.
Subcutaneous emphysema (blank)
Paracentesis Removal of ascitic fluid from the peritoneal cavity.
Diffusion The random movement of particles in all directions through a solution.
Hypercapnia Excess carbon dioxide in the blood.
Thoracentesis Insertion of a needle through the chest wall into the pleural space to remove fluid, blood, or air or to instill medication.
Embolus An unattached blood clot or other substance in the circulatory system.
Cyanosis Blue or dark purple discoloration of the skin caused by deoxygenated hemoglobin in the blood.
Epistaxis Nosebleed
Hypoxia Low oxygen level to body tissues.
Ventilation Movement of air in and out of the lungs
Hemopytsis Coughing up blood
Spirometry An instrument that measures the ventilatory function of the lung. It measures the volume of air that the lung can hold, the rate of flow of air in and out of the lung.

Antituberculars Resolution of the S&S of tuberculosis sputum cultures.

Bronchodilator A drug used to relieve bronchospasm associated with respiratory disorders COPD.
Antitussive A drug used to relieve coughing.
Mucolytic A drug that loosens respiratory secretions
Expectorant A drug that aids in raising thick, tenacious mucus from the respiratory passages.
