Managing Client Care

What is case management? an approach that coordinates and links health care services to clients and their families while streamlining costs and maintaining quality
Case managers do not always provide direct care but? instead they work with and supervise the care delievered by other staff members and actively coordinate client discharge planning

What is decentralized management? where decision making is moved down to the level of staff
to make decentralized management work case managers must know how to? move decision making down to the lowest level possible
What is respnsibility? refers to the duties and activites that an individual is employed to perform
responsibility reflects? ownership
The primary nurse is responsible for? completeing a nursing assessment of all clients for development of care, evaluating whether the plan was successful
What is autonomy? freedom of choice and responsibility for the choices
With autonomy, a professional nurse makes? independent decisions about client care
What does authority refer to? legitimate power to give commands and make final decisions specific to a given position
The primary nurse has the authority to? consult other nurses to learn why the team did not follow recommendations of the plan of care

What are the four elements of decision making? autonomy, authority, accountability, and responsiblity

Consideration communicates? trust, respect, and rapport between the manager and staff members
When done correctly delegation improves? job, efficiency, productivity, and job enrichment
An important responsibliity for the nurse who delegates nursing care is evaluation of? the staff member's performance and client outcomes
