Urticaria
Question | Answer |

What | Hives ā wheals, angioedema. Allergic reactions and systemic diseases may causes systems. Can be chronic or acute. |
Causes | Common offending agents are drugs, foods like nuts, eggs, shellfish, are the most common. Physical stimuli include sun exposure, cold exposure, wool, latex. |
TReatment | Remove offending agents if identifiable. Acute treatment includes. Antihistamine, loratadine (claritin) , cetirizine (zyrtec), fexofenadine(allegra) are preferred over Benadryl for continued use due to Benadryl'sā drowsy side effects. |
Treatment | Oral corticosteroids 20-40 mg dly for 5 days or in children weight appropriate. H2 receptors pepcid 40mg dly for 5 days. |
