The nurse should provide what important teaching? Explain the drug-drug interaction b/w ampicillin and oral contraceptives. Taking meds together decreases effectiveness of oral contraceptive.
A woman has come to her PCP requesting birth control pills. Identify factors that contraindicate use of birth control pills and identify why. Pregnancy, thromboembolic disorders (hypercoagulability), cancer(stimulate tumor growth), hypertension (increased angiotensin and retention of sodium and water), women over 30 who smoke(decreased estrogenic effect and increased platelet aggregation)
Terbutaline (Brethine) is indicated in preterm labor to stop uterine contractions. (blocks beta2-adrenergic receptors which causes uterine smooth muscle relaxation.
What nursing interventions are indicated for a clt in labor receiving oxytocin (pitocin) to stimulate uterine contractions? Use an infusion pump to administer medication. (ensure precise dosage). Provide continuous monitoring of maternal vital signs.(assess for therapeutic effects and development of adverse effects). Monitor FHR continuously.
A client is receiving testosterone enanthate (Delatestryl) for tx of androgen-responsive breast cancer. What side effects should she be monitored for? Hypercalcemia, liver damage, increased LDL and decreased HDL levels, unusual hair growth. (med can lead to fluid retention.)
A nurse is providing teaching to a clt receiving tamoxifen (Nolvadex) for breast cancer prevention. What statement indicates the clt has understood the teaching? "I may experience hot flashes." (hot flashes are side effect, pregnancy risk D, can lead to hypercalcemia, clt should avoid dairy products, can cause hyperlipidemia, so clt should avoid high fat diet.
Therapeutic use: Testosterone enanthate(delatestryl) Contraindicated for athletic performance enhancement.
Therapeutic use: Conjugated equine estrogens (Premarin) Relief of postmenopausal symptoms.

Therapeutic use : Sildenafil (Viagra) Treatment of erectile dysfunction.
