Treatments ch 7

Treatments for blood and lymphatic disorders

Control bleeding, treat shock (o2, elevate lower extremities, keep warm, replace fluid (blood transfusion, plasma, dextran, lactaed ringer), monitor vital signs are treatments for Hypovolemic Anemia
Vitamin B 12 (cyanocobalamin) 1000 units, daily for 1 week, weekly for 1 month, monthly for life, folic acid supplement, iron replacement, RBC transfusion (if severe), diet (high in protein, vitamins, and minerals) are treatments for Pernicious Anemia
Identify and remove cause, platelet transfusion for severe thrombocytopenia, splenectomy for hypersplenism, steroids and androgens (stimulate bone marrow), antithymocyte globulin (stimulates bone marrow), bone marrow transplant are treatments for Aplastic Anemia
Ferrous Sulfate 900 mg daily (oral or injection z track), ascorbic acid (enhances iron absorbtion), diet high in iron (organ meats, muscle meats, fish, eggs, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, and dried beans are all treatments for Iron Deficiency Anemia
No specific treatmet (alleviate symptoms), oxygen, rest, fluids (oral and iv), analgesics, bone marrow transplant (experimental) are treatments for Sickle Cell Anemia
Identify and remove cause of bone marrow depression, prevent or treat infections, meticulous handwashing, strict asepsis are all treatments for Agranulocytosis
Chemotherapy, radiation, bone marrow transplant, medications (leukeran, hydroxyurea, corticosteroids, cytoxan) are treatments for Leukemia
Corticosteriod therapy, splenectomy, gamma globulin, innunosuppressive drugs, platelet transfusions, and avoid trauma are all treatments for Thrombocytopenia
Minimize bleeding, relieve pain, transfusions, (factor viii or ix concentrate), cryoprecepitate (rich in viii), manufactured factor viii or ix are treatments for Hemophilia
Cryoprecipitate, fibrinogen, fresh plasma, desmopressin (DDAVP)(synthetic of human antidiuretic hormone, vasopressin, causes an increase in factor ,same nursing interventions as for hemophilia are treatments for Von Willebrand's Disease
Treat underlying cause, cryoprecipitate, heparin, protect from bleeding and trauma are treatments for DIC, Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation
Symptomatic, not curable, radiation, chemotherapy (alkeran, cytoxan, leukeran, carmustin, vincristine, adriamycin, dexamethasone) corticosteroids, and iv fluids are treatments for Multiple Myeloma
Penicillin, hot, moist heat, and elevate extremity are teatments for Lymphangitis
Diuretics, antibiotics, compression pump, elastic stocking or sleeve, restricted sodium diet, avoid contrictive clothing, meticulous skin care are all treatments for Lymphedema
Accurate staging of the disease is crucial, radiation, chemotherapy (oncovin, adriamycin, bleomycin, methotrexate) treatment when not localized, bone marrow transplant, tumor necrosis factor (tnf), direct cell toxicity, stimulates bone marrow are treatmen Malignant Lymphoma
Depends on the staging process, stage 1 or 11 (localized) radiation, Stage 111 or 1v (generalized) chemotherapy or both are treatments for Hodgkins disease
