meds: antabuse(disufiram)- what does it do makes pt ill if they ingest ETOH, when ETOH is consumed it is metabolized by body into acetaldehyde (causing hangovers) and it is then oxidzed into acetic acid(no harm); this med does not allow the oxidization
meds: antabuse(disufiram)- effects if ETOH is ingested flushin , N, copious vomiting, sweating, thrist, throbbing Ha, respiratory difficulties, chest pain, palpitations, dyspnea, tachycardia, hypotension, vertigo, confusion, blurred vision
meds: antabuse(disufiram)- what does it not do only a physical deterrent from not drinking, does not reduce persons cravings or treat ETOH withdrawal s/s
meds: antabuse(disufiram)- administrations in a daily pill, ppl can stop takin durg and drink a few days later,
