1. What is the Role of Complement proteins ?215 these proteins form a membrane attack complex. they are embedded in the cell membrane and attack foriegn microbes.
2. What are the Activities of the Immune Response ? 216 they watch for foreign substances entering the body, recognize antigens as nonself, recognize one antigen from another.
3. How does the body respond once a particular Rind of substance has been detected and identified ?217 it(immedialtely-humoral) produces a protein called an antibody that does battle against the antigen, then the delayed response(cell-mediated) involves sinsitized T Lymphocytes.
4. Why are memory cells important in the immune response? 217 These cells are called B cells
5. What are the five classes of immunoglobulins?218 IgA, IgD, IgE, IgM, IgG
6. How does an antibody destroy or inactivate its particular antigen?218 It mechanically destroys it or inactivates it antigen, activating a complement system, or causes the release of chemicals that affect the enviroment of the antigen.
7. Why should transplanted tissue have surface antigens that are very similar to those of the host tissue? 220 because if the antigens aren't similar to the donor surface antigens then the body will reject the donated tissue or organ.
8. Name and describe the 2 types of immunity to specific disease ? 221 active naturally acquired immunity is that passed from mother to the baby; actively acquired immunity is the immunity that you get when you get a vaccination/immunization
9. How does the consumption Alcohol affect the immmune system? it impairs the ability of the B Lymphocytes to produce antibodies and it affects the T-cell activity. It leads to alteration in Liver function and impaired nutrition which alters immune function.
10. What are the cooling measures used to treat Hyperexia? you can put ice packs raped in cloth under the arm pits or in the groin area, you can use a thermal cooling blanket or you can administer a tepid sponge bath to help cool the hyperixic patient.
