TCA notes Do not drink alcohol (potientally fatal CNS depression and overdose) concurrent use with MAOI and tryamine foods may lead to hypertensive crisis.
Anticholingergic Effects dry mouth, orthostatic hypotension, increased HR,constipation, urinary retention/hesitancy, mydriasis, blurred vision, dry eyes, photosensitivity.
TCA therapeutic time 2-6weeks
Citalopram (Celexa) SSRI antidepressant
escitalopram (Lexapro) SSRI antidepressant
fluoxetine (Prozac) SSRI antidepressant
paroxetine (Paxil) SSRI antidepressant
sertraline (Zoloft) SSRI antidepressant
SSRI MOA inhibit reuptake of serotonin. Potentiating neuronal activity of serotonin has little effect on norepinephrine or dopamine.
SSRI treatment drepression, panic disorder, PTSD, bulimia, OCD, PDD, anxiety.
SSRI combined with antipsychotics EPS are increased.
Serotonin Syndrome potentially fatal result of excess serotonin activity when SSRI are combined with MAOIs, St. John's Wort, or typtophan.
Serotonin Syndrom Symptoms changes in mental status, muscle spasms, hyperreflexia, diaphoresis, shivering, tremors, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea, ataxia, and headache.

duloxetine (Cymbalta) Novel antidepressant
venlafaxine (Effexor) Novel antidepresant

isocarboxazid (Marplan) MAOI antidepressant

moclobemide (Manerix) MAOI antidepressant
MAOI antidepressant MOA block the enzyme monamineoxidase tht breaks down neurotransmitters.
MAOI antidepressant treatment depression that will not respond to other treatments.
Hypertensive Crisis w/ MAOIs Potentially fatal drug interactions with foods containing tyramine, SSRI, MAOI, TCA, Demerol, CNS depressants, OTC cold and allergy products, weight loss products, Ritalin, bronchodialators, and some antihypertensives.
