Pt w/Coronary Artery Disease & Cardiac Surgery

Angina Pectoris Chest Pain, occurs when blood supply to the heart is < or totally obstructed. Ischemia of the heart tissue causes pain. (caused by atherosclerosis or aterial spasm
Athersclerosis heart disease in which fibrinos plaques are laid down on the inner walls of the of the arteries, narrowing the lumens of the vessels and predisposing them to the developement of intravascular clots.
CABG Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery, improves blood flow.
Cardiomyoplasty surgery where the Latissimus Dorsi muscle is detached from its normal position and wraped around the heart and attached to a pacemaker to help boost the heart pumping action.
Coronary Insufficiency narrowing of the coronary arteries, < or insufficient blood flow. obstruction occurs from this process and from thrombosis
Drug-eluting Stent this stent is inserted into blocked arteries to flatten plaques on artery walls, it continually releases an anticolagulant/antiplatlet drug to keep the blocked artery open
MET these are Metablic Equivalent Units that measure levels of activity, 1 MET is the amount of oxygen needed by the body at rest. Pt's rehab program slowly progresses stepwise to higer energy levels over a peroid of time.
Myocardial infarction MI this is when there is a sudden obstruction to blood flow through one or more major coronary arteries occurs
Necrosis cell death
Valvuloplasty done for valve Stenosis. a ballon cather is threaded via th circulatory sys. through the heart and into the valve and the ballon is inflated to break open the stenosed valve.
these arteries supply the myocardium(heart muscle) with oxygen and nutritiens ? coronary arties, if obstructed can cause a MI
CAD Coronary Artery Disease,causes by atherosclerosis(laying down plaque-containg cholesterol in the arteries
this is general thickening and loss of elasticity of the Arteries? Arteriosclerosis, starts in childhood
Narrowing of the arteries causes what? coronary insufficiency( <blood flow)
Hypertension, cigarette smoking, and diabetes mellitus are all factors that contribute to what? Atherosclerosis
