Salicylates GI irritation (dyspepsia, nausea, ulcer, hemorrhage); Prolonged bleeding time Exacerbation of asthma (aspirin-sensitive asthma) Tinnitus, dizziness with repeated large doses
NSAIDS GI irritation (dyspepsia, nausea, ulcer, hemorrhage) Prolonged bleeding time Headache, tinnitus Rash Acute renal insufficiency and other renal mudullary changes Exacerbation of asthma (cross-reactivity with aspirin)
Nonopioid Analgesics (Tylenol, Zostrix) Rash, urticaria Hepatoxicity (especially in presence of alcohol abuse) Leukopenia Localized burning sensation, erythema
Nonopioid Analgesics ( Ultram) GI irritation (dyspepsia, nausea, ulcer, hemorrhage) Dizziness, headache Somnolence Pruritus
Opioid Analgesics GI irritation (dyspepsia, nausea/vomiting, constipation) Dizziness, headache, orthostatic hypotension Sedation, respiratory depression
Corticosteroids (Intraarticular Injections) Local osteoporosis, tendon rupture, neuropathic arthropathy from frequent injection. Dermal/subdermal changes leading to depression at injection site Possibility of local infection
Corticosteroids (Systemic) Cushing syndrome (including fluid retention), GI irritation, osteoporosis, insomnia, hypertension, steroid psychosis, diabetes mellitus, acne, menstrual irregularities, hirsutism, risk of antibiotic-resistant infection, brusing.
DMARDs (Rheumatrex) Hepatotoxicity occurs more often with frequent sm doses than with large intermittent doses. Sm dose & different administration scdl for RA make it less likely that pt will develop symptoms related to drug's antineoplastic activity (bone marrow depresion)
DMARSs (Azulfidine, Salazopyrin) GI effects (anorexia, N/V), Bleeding bruising, jaundice, Headache, rash, urticaria, pruritus
DMARDs (Arava) Nausea, diarrhea, Respiratory tract infection, alopecia, Rash
DMARDs (penicillamine) GI irritation (N/V, anorexia, diarrhea) reduced altered taste. Rash, hematuria. Iron deficiency (esp. in menstruating women)
DMARDs (Gold Compounds) Decreased hemoglobin, leukopenia, thrombycytopenia, Proteinuria, hematuria. Stomatitis
DMARDs (Antimalarials) Ocular toxicity (retinopathy) may progress even after drug is discontinued, Ototoxicity. Peripheral neuritis, neuromyopathy, pypotension, electrocardiogram changes with prolonged therapy.
Immunosuppressants GI irritation (N/V), anorexia with large doses). Rash
Biologic Therapy (Enbrel) Injection site reaction including erythema, pain, itching, swelling. Abdomial pain, vomiting. Dizziness, headache. Rhinitis, pharyngitis, cough.
Biologic Therapy (Remicade, Humira, Kineret) Abd pain, N/V. Dizziness, headache. Rhinitis, cough, sinusitis, pharyngitis. Injection site reaction. Leukopenia, headache. Abd pain, rash.
Antibiotics GI effects (N/V, diarrhea, stomach cramps). Dizziness. Photosensitivity (severe)
